To spread the thermal spray technology, the original Chinese economic development committee associated with the original Chinese science & technology development committee held the Chinese thermal spraying (welding) technology-popularizing conference on October 21, 1981 in Beijing. Chinese Thermal Spraying Association (CTSA) was established during this conference proposed and approved by the two committees. CTSA director is Beijing General Research Institute of Mining & Metallurgy. Meanwhile the association office was set up. It affiliates with Beijing General Research Institute of Mining & Metallurgy

The structure of CTSA has been established gradually during these years. The total more than 400 units have joined the association up till now, including more than 40 universities and academies, more than 60 research institutes and domestic key thermal spray plants.
Lots of tasks have been completed by CTSA. For example, 9 technical experience communication conferences, 7 technical experience communication workshop at spot at state level, 6 large scale technical courses of lectures and 35 technical training have been held, 10 kinds of conference proceedings and 12 issues of the industry briefing every year have been published. CTSA workers also assisted the related companies and governments to popularize thermal spray new technologies in China. Now it pays more attention on international communication. CTSA has set up close contacts with the state thermal spray associations such as Japan, the Unites States, German, France, Russia, Swiss, Ukraine, Singapore, Canada, etc.
Today, thermal spray technology has become the most important part in the field of surface engineering technologies and will be used widely with China economy development. CTSA would like to establish contacts and cooperate with any related domestic and abroad organizations and companies to provide good services for the industry to accelerate Chinese thermal spray industry.
